A credential is not required to practice
dental assisting in Massachusetts . However, to perform certain clinical
functions, such as the taking of radiographs, the Board of Registration in
Dentistry has established standards for dental assistants. Dental
assistants certified by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) meet
all the conditions necessary to practice dental assisting in the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Dental Assistants who are graduates of dental assisting programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Dental Association and certified by the Dental Assisting National Board have greater opportunities for advancement and enjoy a higher incomes. These dental assistants may be employed in dental schools, federal facilities, insurance companies, or by dental manufacturers.
